April 2024 Club Meeting
Coral Restoration Foundation
Wednesday, April 10th at 6:00 pm
Join us as the Coral Restoration Foundation shares their story on how they are helping fight the loss of the beautiful corals off the coast of Florida. Their organization provides opportunities for divers to get involved and join the fight.
Since the 1950s, the world has lost over 50% of its coral reefs and Florida’s coral reefs have lost 98-99% of its live stony coral coverage since the 1970s. Since coral reefs support at least 25% of all marine species and represent nearly $10 trillion dollars of global value in terms of coastline protection, fisheries and tourism, this loss represents dramatic consequences. Coral Restoration Foundation™ is the world’s largest non-profit in-situ coral restoration organization that works towards restoring the coral reefs of the Florida Keys and being a global leader, using science to further the restoration field and educating people in the hopes of empowering others to speak about the importance of our ocean and coral reefs. We believe that large-scale, massive action is necessary to save our coral reefs and we look forward to sharing our mission with you!
Please join the SeaDevils at Kardinal Hall and learn how Coral Restoration Foundation™ is making a difference and how we can help.
Meet your fellow divers at Kardinal Hall, located 722 Preston Ave, Charlottesville. Socializing begins at 6:00 pm and the Meeting/Program begins at 7:00 pm.
