March 2023 Club Meeting
Aquarius Reef Base
Deployed 60 feet beneath the surface off Key Largo, Florida, Aquarius Reef Base provides a unique opportunity for ocean research, technology development, and community outreach.
Joining us from her home in Saint Petersburg, Florida, marine scientist and author, Dr. Ellen Prager, will discuss how she integrated diving, ocean science, environmental issues and humor into her newest youth adventure book, Escape Undersea. She used her firsthand experience doing two missions in Aquarius Reef Base, as well as her stint as their chief scientist to combine a fun fiction story with what it’s really like to sleep with the fishes. She’ll provide an overview of the undersea lab, the technology used, the types of science accomplished, and let us all in on some secrets from living undersea.
Meet your fellow SeaDevils at Kardinal Hall, located at 722 Preston Ave, Charlottesville. We will meet at 6:00 pm for dinner and drinks and the Meeting/Program begins at 7:00 pm.
We offer remote access to the meeting as well via zoom. To join, all you need is a computer or mobile phone. It’s sure to be a night full of food, drink and fun. Hope to see you there!
